Anonymous Verified Owner Friday, Mar 27 2015 (about 10 years ago) ProTek RC “SureStart” Professional 1/8 Off-Road Starter Box Great box. Completely workable and adjustable to meet your needs. It comes prewired also so that is very helpful. The quality is good; materials, wiring, soldering, etc… I stuck two 2S lipos in it and it had no issues throughout the whole break-in process of my Werks B6. Good job a-main! Edit: you will have to do some working/tinkering on this to get it to mate with your flywheel how you want. I don’t understand why all these people are giving bad reviews for having to do so… this is the nature of the hobby. You should have known that even though it says 95% ready, you would have to do some work.. Took me 30 mins of shimming, etc.. not enough to make me want to rate it less than 5 stars. 17 of 18 customers found this review helpful. Kenneth Tackett Verified Owner Saturday, Jul 25 2015 (about 10 years ago) ProTek RC “SureStart” Professional 1/8 Off-Road Starter Box I setup the box to fit my brand newish Mugen MBX7t, fixed the wiring to run off a 4s lipo and it worked perfectly. I did have to tighten the chassis alignment dow screws after a few uses. Perfect. 5 customers found this review helpful. Richard Hess Verified Owner Wednesday, Mar 25 2015 (about 10 years ago) ProTek RC “SureStart” Professional 1/8 Off-Road Starter Box yes just like every starter box ever made if you have a 32mm flywheel or smaller you will have to shim the motor/wheel assembly, very easy to do……this is very close if not the same as the mugen pro spec box that was considered one of the best to have but you had to build the mugen box and was a major pain in the butt, this comes prebuilt!!!! and for less $ !!!! same quality!!! 5 customers found this review helpful. Brian Rock Verified Owner Sunday, Apr 6 2014 (about 11 years ago) ProTek RC “SureStart” Professional 1/8 Off-Road Starter Box This has been a great starter box. The flywheel is a little small on our JQ nitro buggy, but I was able to shim up all of the internals in the starter box to bring the wheel up to compensate for the buggy. Very simple to do. I also bought the recommended ProTek 4S Lipo for the box. Trouble free combo! 7 of 9 customers found this review helpful. Marco Rodriguez Verified Owner Friday, Sep 15 2017 (about 8 years ago) ProTek RC “SureStart” Professional 1/8 Off-Road Starter Box Love this starter box!
Build quality, fit and finish were very well done and put together.
Had to shim the motors/starter wheel assembly for the wheel to hit the flywheel on my Losi buggy but I expected that as it was clearly stated in the product description.
Only thing I would suggest is include the mod to have it accept a lipo pack. I would of paid the extra money!!!
Thanks for an awesome product!!! 4 of 5 customers found this review helpful. Patrick Bellner Verified Owner Sunday, May 29 2022 (about 3 years ago) ProTek RC “SureStart” Professional 1/8 Off-Road Starter Box Buy extra wheels. Even tho I adjusted it with shims the rubber wheel didn’t last long enough to start my engine for my first break it.It’s so soft I can flex it back and forth. Balsa wood is stiffer. The contacts turned black on the copper so ill have to clean those and add dielectric grease and hopefully it won’t burn out. Super bummed. My duratrax has lasted over 7 years and no issues. 2 customers found this review helpful. CJ Serrano Verified Owner Tuesday, May 26 2020 (about 5 years ago) ProTek RC “SureStart” Professional 1/8 Off-Road Starter Box Great Starter box! Comes completely built and ready to go. Yes, I had to shim up wheel a bit to use but only took a few minutes and nothing that should be complained about considering the price and what we are getting. Box is plenty strong, I’ve broken in 3 Novarossi engines and an FX with mine and had no issues as long as the engines are preheated as they should be. After a little use be sure to check your belts make them nice and snug and you will get great starting power everytime. I’m not even using lipo, I’m using two Nimh packs [EcoPower 6-Cell NiMH Stick Pack Battery w/T-Style Connector (7.2V/3000mAh)] that I got when I bought the box and lasts all day with plenty of power even with constant use on break in days! 2 customers found this review helpful. Yet Santos Verified Owner Saturday, Aug 10 2019 (about 6 years ago) ProTek RC “SureStart” Professional 1/8 Off-Road Starter Box What i like with this are the 2 motors built into it. I shimmed the rubber wheel 4mm and it works really good for my Losi 8x, good thing i have read the comments and the notes on the product page first so i got the idea. The top deck adjustment plate is a little delicate, if you screw it too hard it might loosen the thread of the plastic stopper. I have a missing square nuts when i receive the item, but Amain replaced it by sending me a new nut set right away. 2 customers found this review helpful. William Ryan Verified Owner Thursday, Jul 4 2019 (about 6 years ago) ProTek RC “SureStart” Professional 1/8 Off-Road Starter Box This is a good starter box. Plenty of power, lightweight, pre-assembled. I did have to shim the bracket for the motors/rubber wheel upwards to contact the flywheel on my buggy(Serpent SRX8 EVO) but that’s a minor gripe. The on/off switch also failed fairly quickly. I think it just died due to vibration. Still, recommended. 1 customer found this review helpful. Link Verified Owner Friday, Aug 1 2025 (8 weeks ago) ProTek RC “SureStart” Professional 1/8 Off-Road Starter Box Basically echoing the comments in here.
After a less than a year of storage and just one use the unit did not star. The copper plate contacts for the push-pin were to soft or not rigid enough to spring back. I have to bend back the taps to create the contact. This is very sad.
The wheel needs additional high adjustment for proper contact.
The wheel is to soft and lacks of grip.
