Brushless servo technology has improved by leaps and bounds. Finally, brushless servos can deliver holding power, speed and precision that can compete with a coreless servo. Combine that with the superior efficiency and lifespan of a brushless motor and you have a servo that hits all the marks, with the performance and quality required for a pro level build. 

A black anodized aluminum case with aluminum and white accents give this servo a stealthy look that sets it apart from the rest. The aluminum upper case provides bomb proof durability and the heat sink center case offers efficient heat dissipation and helps to reduce weight. The lead wire is detachable, allowing you to easily custom tailor the servo lead to your application, and the package includes both 135mm and 285mm length servo leads. Plus, a full selection of servo arms and mounting hardware are included making installation easy.

NOTE:If you experience glitching or poor performance while using a Futaba transmitter, you must turn off BLS mode. BLS mode is only compatible with Futaba BLS type servos.

The detachable leads is key and I can only hope that trend continues with future protek models. I’ve been using Protek’s for a while now and even though they have caught up to other “top brands” in price they’ve always matched them in performance in reliability and the 170 is no different. It is my first time trying out the ProTek servos and it has proved to be a top notch from my experience so far.
It has taken a good amount of beating but it is still going very strong.
The finish on this is phenomenal. For about the same price, you’re getting a brushless high speed servo that can cost you twice as much when you buy other brands.

I had just installed the 170TBL in the Tekno Truggy I ordered a couple weeks before, and I’ve been so impressed with both of them that I recently ordered the waterproof crawler version as well. These Protek black label servos are all I’m using going forward. They are so quiet, fast and powerful that nobody would ever need more. Under the shrink wrap packaging was a case that was cracked in several places and a servo covered with fingerprints. One of the cables that you plug into the servo was also missing.
I contacted amain via live chat and they overnighted me another servo (with a return label for the older one), which was great.
….except that the replacement ALSO came in a marred case, with the servo itself having several scratches on the polished area in the upper body. I am not going to bother anymore as the servo seems to work fine (for now…), but I can’t help but wonder if amain has been putting returns back on the shelf with no quality control. Certainly doesn’t feel like I got my $159 worth in any case. However, due to how and where the wires exit the servo, if used with the RC8B4, some modification to the servo mount is required with a dremel to clear the wires.
