Tamiya King Yellow 6×6 G6-01 1/18 Monster Truck Kit

The Tamiya King Yellow 6×6 G6-01 1/18 Monster Truck Kit is the a classic! It includes a body molded in lightweight yet durable polycarbonate, and great realism thanks to the inclusion of separate parts recreating details such as roof lights and stop sign. The kit also includes stickers for decoration, and masking stickers to help with the paint job. Matte silver color plated deep rim wheels are paired with 113mm diameter tires for great off-road performance. Furthermore, its powerful gear-driven setup allows the King Yellow to take on slope inclines of up to 40 degrees!
G6-01The fun G6-01 chassis is based around a tough, slimline monocoque frame and offers excellent off-road performance thanks to a 6-wheel drive system. Power is provided by a motor behind the front wheels, and transmitted to front, center and rear wheels via gears. The gearbox is sealed to protect from dust and debris, and integrated into the frame; it has built-in front, center and rear differential gears to provide smooth cornering. 6-wheel double wishbone suspension is fitted with friction dampers. A 2-piece steering tie-rod setup utilizes the servo on the left for excellent response. With suspension reassembly and a separately-sold transmitter with 4WS function and R/C equipment, the rear wheels can be made steerable.

Dan Sunday, Feb 23 2025 (7 months ago) Tamiya King Yellow 6×6 G6-01 1/18 Monster Truck Kit Bought one of these trucks around 10 years ago, and its consistently one of my favorites to bash around.
Its so goofy, yet surprisingly capable! If you put waterproof electronics in it, the relative light weight and overall surface area of those chevron tires means its great on snow. Replacing the stock pogo sticks with proper oil filled coilovers makes it a great small-time jumper, too.
This is not a basher in the same vein as an Arrma Gorgon / Granite or Traxxas Stampede / Hoss / Maxx, by any means. It is a lot more fragile, and its gearing means that even with a decent brushless system on 2s, it will never be crazy fast.
I have a Castle SW3 SCT system in mine, and I built mine with the included 4WS parts (which are included in the kit). Its such a hoot, and its always a hit with kids.
Few things to be aware of:
– The rear body posts are stacked pretty high and will likely break after a few impacts. Pick up a few spares just in case.
– The chassis made of slightly brittle plastic, be careful to not overtighten fasteners during assembly. This is especially true for the upper shock mount ball studs, very easy to over-torque with the wrench.
– The body’s upper orange & red lights are just glued on, and will probably pop off fairly quickly after a crash or two. Don’t have a solution there, just something to be aware of.
– If you put the rear-steer kit on, do yourself a favor and get a longer turnbuckle and use the “further out” mount on the servo saver for the ball stud. This will increase the angle you can get safely out of the rear wheels.
On the rear steer, take care to use a transmitter that lets you set endpoints, or at least dual rate, on that channel. You will NOT be able to get the same range of motion as you can on the front. If you try, you’ll just end up burning up the servo or frequently breaking the rear steer mechanism.
Overall, this is one of my most beloved RC’s. Looks awesome, is amusing to drive, and if you take a bit of care can last you a very long time! View all reviews
